Poem - Your Hand

The poem “Your Hand” is about a blues dance. It was inspired by recent wonderful blues dancing with two very lovely ladies, along with listening to the blues fusion mixes of Callie Gieck, and remembering what I see others experiencing during their blues dancing experiences.

Your Hand

I'll take home your memory
echoes of the proximity
ache of the vanished partner
resounding solely in my heart
I had the others all the night
to the tunes that came before
then the blues began to play
I found your hand and there I stayed.

What we had was rhythm's bliss
jazz made pure for our fling
on the floor with rhythm and blues
melodic muse for two in groove
wonderfully slow was the speed
back and forth with no rock step
no hurry to move beyond the place
where two bodies moved in space.

Pulsing close down to the earth
finding the other as we flowed
the base to lead our bodies' thrust
felt as one by two enjoined
close enough to feel the heat
radiant bliss of movement made
only separated by propriety
though close enough for bliss.

The final notes began to play
time's wages for the pleasure gained
the garden left behind by those
who found heaven in another's arms
with reluctance I'll depart
knowing the music still exists
waiting for another time
when once again I'll take your hand.
