Not My Thing

I'm listening to Al Franken's book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right". Al's recitation of the tactics of the right-wing political machines sickens me. Now, I'm not ignorant enough to think that the left-wing doesn't have their own political schemers, but I swear, the right-wing seems to have some dastardly ones (ie Carl Rove).

I've learned that I don't have the stomach to be a political warrior. It could be that I don't understand the power plays of politics. It could be that I don't understand warfare as a whole, but I don't think this is the case. The "difference" may be that those who engage in political warfare are supposed to be on the same side, namely the country as a whole. This does not seem to be the case. Their loyalties are instead to relatively small set of people (compared to the nation as a whole). I can't stomach this mindset. We all exist in our own realities, and I can't related to the world of the political warrior.
