Poem - Set Me Free

Life is damaging. Life hurts. Too often we create defenses in order to buffet ourselves against the trials. These work, too well. Isolation from pain becomes isolation from the world. In the end we must be rescued from a prison of our own creation.

Set Me Free
Poem for Day 056 – 20141118

I'm finally safe,
here in my maze.
Disappointment is distant.
Abandonment not possible.
Heartbreak nonexistent.
Change impossible.

You will not reach me.
Don't try to find me.
False faces,
compliant mutterings,
echoed from my hiding place,
through my self made maze.

I did not begin this way.
This is my final place:
high walls,
deep moats,
cluttered halls.
I did not plan this dark enthralled.

I am finally safe,
here in my maze.
A false calm resides,
here in my life denied.
A hollow safety is mine,
here behind my battle line.

I've lost myself.
My maze has worked too well.
I meant to escape the world,
but I have fallen under an evil spell.
I meant for life to pass me by,
but now I cannot find myself.

Could you please seek me out.
Walk my maze, seek the center.
Walk the dusty halls,
with me in absentee.
Seek me in the maze,
and set me free.
