I wrote the poem “She Was Seventeen” before I started my 90 Days of Poetry (now going 100 Days of Poetry, maybe more!). It harkens back to a time nearly twenty years ago.
She Was Seventeen
Poem for Day 96 – 20141228
She was seventeen and I was not
Eight years apart so many years ago
Now we are older
Time and Life goes on
Today songs jog my thoughts
Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
I remember you as we were
Violent Femmes - Gimme the Car
Twenty-one came and went
The celebration remembered with vodka toasts
You knew what you wanted even then
Moving toward heart felt desires
The Cure marked a division set in time
The Love Cats
Songs are all that are left
My thoughts drift only back
She was seventeen and I was not
Eight years apart so many years ago
Now we are older
Time and Life goes on
