Masque
Poem for Day 119 – 20150429
Put on the masque,
regale the throngs
with music, dancing
acting, and song.
Wear the mask,
the face of like,
on this stage
of ill concealed.
Contracts suborned
by sickness inner,
have strength
to portray
the smiling outer.
Make merry,
hide terror,
to fair patrons,
consorts all
in a play
most bitter.
The masque goes
on,
life dies
within,
hope worn
outside
as soul
expires within.
