Poem - No Return

People come and go from our lives. Sometimes the leaving is temporary. Sometimes there is little emotion involved. Other times separation is fraught with emotion. One person is the leaving and the other is the one being left. These goodbyes are a one-way trip. The poem “No Return” speaks to the shared bitter sweet aspect of these goodbyes.

No Return
Poem for Day 208 – 20150727

To say goodbye is to free yourself.
or to be freed by somebody else.
Chains cast aside in freedom's bid
or cast adrift as another flees.

You'll find the end is the same,
with the path only different.
One holds the most bitter pleasure,
the other holds most beautiful pain,

This is a gift with no return trip,
the path one way for all concerned.
It matters not if you give it
nor if you are the one receiving.

The moment has passed on this day,
farewell voiced on time's cold wings.
The future holds promise for two,
no matter what the parting may choose.
