Dec. 1st, 2016 @ 04:30 pm Poem - Distraction
"Distraction" is a tongue-in-cheek look at how people come out of nowhere and appear in our lives. Out of the hundreds possible, a lucky(?) few come forward and become important in this human existence. The timing and reason seems obscure and mysterious. Should I move from distraction or stay to play?

Distraction

The straight and narrow was my path
so says the book of holy script
as the elders echoed forth
don't stray away or you'll be lost
in this realm I walked the path
steady soldier with purpose set
if only I had known back then
the path would turn when you appeared.

Perhaps most high does have a pact
with his foe to test the ones
that walk the earth below their gaze
or scramble forward above their heads
they'll to tip the scale with finger pressed
with purpose set to trigger chance
present diversion in fairest form
the one not meant to come along.

You ask how I could claim to know
the ways of deities far beyond
this human realm that I live in
is fraught with wry happenstance
as constrained limits are tossed aside
the best laid plans of mice and men
are fodder for the cutting floor
as life is filmed in all its gore.

To this I'll say listen here
the die was cast by promises
made by myself and others more
in full agreement before the lords
of heaven and hell signed in blood
with promises made to outcomes set
to only play to letters writ
on pages by the contract's pledge.

Critics were right, I was wrong
the proof is here to taunt me so
as pledges made were cast aside
when day to night revealed the choice
once unknown is now so plain
long time there but just now seen
the gild of flower has full bloomed
now in my path, forward paused.

The straight and narrow is still there
though I wonder if I should tread
as on my shoulders the pixies sit
with advise given opposite
which wears the wings gold in sun?
which is smells of sulpher from below?
each has an opinion said:
move from distraction or stay to play.
